Our Promise: Quality Mental Healthcare for Families

Millions of Canadian families are impacted by mental health problems every year. However, our mental health service industry remains primarily targeted towards individuals.

FamilyPsycle® was founded to solve this problem, aiming to increase the family focus of the Canadian mental health services landscape. An emphasis on family-based care can reach more people, while addressing difficulties not necessarily captured by individual focused care.

New organizations are emerging, making dramatic promises around how technologies can benefit family mental health.

These technologies are still in their infancy and require careful oversight from registered professionals. Backed by an academic team with a demonstrated record of producing quality, ethical, peer reviewed evidence, we provide support and accountability to organizations that are proposing to use technological innovation such as artificial intelligence (AI), telehealth, and app-based platforms to better mental health for families.

Our Beginnings

FamilyPsycle® was founded by Dr. Dillon Browne, and his life and professional partner, Tracey Browne. Dr. Browne is a child and family clinical psychologist with 15 years of experience working with children and families in mental health settings. He is an internationally recognized expert on the intersection of mental health, stress, and family relationships. Clinically, Dr. Browne has substantial expertise working with children’s anxiety, depression, difficult behaviour, ADHD, trauma-related challenges, learning difficulties, and related concerns common in childhood. He is also an expert in supporting families who are struggling to interact constructively through the practice of family therapy. Lastly, he has substantial expertise in mental health research, program evaluation, intervention design, teaching, clinical supervision, and consultation as an academic. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Child & Family Clinical Psychology at the University of Waterloo.

Prior to co-founding FamilyPsycle®, Tracey worked for 15 years as a medical technician. Across numerous roles, she supported the development and management of private practices in cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, having a technical background in electrocardiogram and spirometry assessments, in addition to medical administration. Both Dillon and Tracey are dedicated to healthcare, mental health, well-being, and resilience, especially in family contexts and across development. This shared passion was the primary impetus for founding FamilyPsycle® as a mental health organization.
